Topical Anesthetic (Numbing Jelly)
Topical Anesthetic, or “numbing jelly”, is gently rubbed on your gums using a cotton swab and is used to numb your gums before receiving Local Anesthetic, or “Novocain”.
Local Anesthetic (Novocain)
Local Anesthetic is used to numb your gums and teeth before dental work. It is very effective in reducing sensations in your mouth and generally wears off in just a few hours!
Nitrous Oxide (Laughing Gas)
Nitrous oxide, better known as “laughing gas,” is the most commonly used technique for conscious sedation dentistry. Nitrous oxide creates a relaxed, light numbing sensation that relieves anxiety, discomfort and gagging reflexes, allowing us to more effectively complete the procedure. Because the patient is still conscious, the dentist is able to talk with them, answer questions and address any concerns during the treatment, which is a significant safety feature and advantage of conscious sedation.
